Death of a telephone

THE EDITOR, Madam:

INVESTIGATIONS INTO the mysterious death of telephone line P30029465 are reportedly stalled as Cable & Wireless' Chief Medical Officer, Errald Miller has remained tight-lipped on the matter.

Reports are that the customer to whom the line was assigned returned home on Sunday last and was unable to feel a pulse from the telephone line.

She immediately called the repair service operator who encouraged her not to panic but gave the assurance that a Cable and Wireless medical team would attend to the ailing telephone line within three days. On Monday at approximately 10:00 am, the customer discovered that the line was breathing once again.

Having observed several full page advertisements in the weekend newspapers which raise suspicions that Cable & Wireless might be in the process of poisoning customers' lines with a new Master Jack medication, the customer immediately sought an explanation from the Chief Medical Officer as to the reason for the death and subsequent resurrection of the particular telephone line.

Within two hours of the query having been made, the telephone line lost its pulse once again and succumbed to the mysterious ailment. P30029465 is survived by 217,000 infant brothers and sisters.
