Letter writer off-base on Quarrie's record

THE EDITOR, Madam:

IN THE letter from Sylvester 'Jim' Bowie on the Merlene Ottey issue he states that Don Quarrie insisted in making Jamaica's Olympic team in 1984 although he failed to qualify and further that "his impact on team morale and cohesion was devastating."

These assertions are entirely baseless and damaging to the excellent name of one who has served his country and sport with distinction.
