Cops hunt parolees for businesswoman's murder

THE POLICE reported last night that they had obtained warrants for the arrest of two suspects in the killing of 48-year-old businesswoman Sylvia Edwards.

The two suspects, both parolees, are Alric Simpson, 31, otherwise called "Tata", of Providence Lane, Kingston 6 and Joel Andem, 37, of Eleven Miles Bull Bay. According to the police, Simpson is known to frequent Land Lease in the Kintyre area of Papine and Maggie Boulevard in Garveymeade, St. Catherine. Andem also frequents Maggie Boulevard, Olympic Gardens, August Town and Hope Flats.

Andem was sentenced to 42 years imprisonment on a charge of murder in 1990 and was released on parole last year. Simpson was serving a 28-year sentence for murder and was also released on parole last year.

Mrs. Edwards was kidnapped and brutally murdered on Monday. Following investigations, five suspects were picked up and are still being questioned at CIB headquarters in Kingston.
