Getting value for money

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I WISH to bring to light a very disturbing situation. It is a question of justice that must now be imposed. Is it fair to say that after secondary education there are no well-grounded, suitably equipped institutions that offer first-class education, that fully satisfies its patrons?

This is my opinion, and sadly enough due to my most recent experiences can now be seen as a fact. I wish to speak of a certain popular management institution, where a computer course is well under way, and is reaching its final stages. To date, students have been forced to utilise antiquated, outdated and broken down machines for their management course.

The course in question is strictly a computer course, and the situation at present is that only half of the students are being catered for, as half of the computers have malfunctioned and are currently out of use!

The computers are over 10 years old, they receive little or no maintenance, and have not received a systems update for the last four years!

Several complaints have been filed to the relevant authorities but to no avail! These so-called authorities simply pass the buck or ignore the problem altogether; and when forced to face the issue at hand, only make promises that never surface to reality. Our cries are loud and desperate and no-one stops to listen.

I for one am tired of this disdainful situation, and wish to bring to the forefront the injustice that is occurring in our society; where individuals invest large amounts of their hard earned money in an institution, with the expectation of receiving a rewarding and fruitful education, and receive nothing!

I urge individuals who seek higher learning to be weary of these prominent, "reputable" institutions, as there is no protection or guarantee.

I am etc.
