In praise of Calvin Bowen

Bowen
THE EDITOR, Madam: IT IS heartening and of public interest to analyse the literary value of Mr. Calvin Bowen, who has been serving this newspaper from those good old days at Harbour St. I recall then when he went on study leave to England and emerged from a contest being described as "Top Man in Journalism." I recall also the destruction in Hurricane Charlie in 1951 and the smashing masterpiece penned by Mr. Bowen. Despite retirement, the name Calvin Bowen yet rings a bell at The Gleaner. I am of the opinion that he is one of the "best journalists in the West Indies" I am, etc., VERNAL BANKERSINGH Constant Spring
