Disgraceful behaviour of J'cans

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I AM presently residing in the US and I like to read what's going on at home. I was reading your online issue of The Gleaner on Thursday June 1, 2000 and came across an article titled "Simpson Miller hits at Spring Breakers' behaviour".

I myself have attended Spring Break in Negril for the past two years and honestly, as a Jamaican, will never return there whether for holiday or for business.

I am disgusted at the behaviour of our people when these college students visit our country to "take a break" from school. I frequented the many 'hot spots' on the Negril Strip while I was there and I must say that the way our people behave is much worse than the way that the college students behave. A prostitute groped me; I was offered every kind of drug known to man by the same people, (our people) Mrs. Simpson Miller is trying to defend. All of this heckling by the locals was even done in front of our local police and beach patrol.

I was shocked at these happenings and I think that Mrs. Simpson Miller should, before she tries to defend our people in the House of Representatives, have an idea of what the locals do to the tourists.

It was bad enough that, the hotel people and most of the other business people putting on the 'special events' were ripping them off, but this is ridiculous.

I am etc.,

MICHAEL M.
