Two men slain by police after post office hold-up

A HIGH-SPEED chase yesterday afternoon between the police and gunmen who held up the Gregory Park Post Office, St. Catherine, ended with two of the alleged robbers shot and killed, two others apprehended, and three illegal guns seized.

The police reported that about 12:30, a group of men held up the post office employees and made off in a white Toyota Hiace bus, alleged to have been hijacked, with an undetermined sum of money.

The police were alerted and the bus was intercepted by a police party at the Caymanas Crossing, St. Catherine, where a shoot-out ensued.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), the vehicle sped away with the police in pursuit. The bus overturned on Mandela Highway and four men - two with bullet wounds - were found in it.

The wounded men were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead, the other two are being questioned by the Caymanas police who are probing the robbery.

The police said they seized a .22 calibre pistol, a home-made shotgun and a Beretta pistol.
