THE EDITOR, Sir:
CONSTANT SOURCES of discontentment with Jamaicans of all walks are protests in which road surfaces are burnt, the tardiness with which bad roads are dealt with and stray animals on the public thoroughfare.
While still reeling from the shock and grief of losing a loved one, victim of an accident caused by a pothole created by the burning of a dead cow on the road surface, I can recall having written on all the above road nuisances at different times coming from way back in 1995 when Dr. Palomino's son died as a result of a pothole accident in Kingston.
Last year, I narrowly escaped losing a family member in a cattle/vehicle accident. This year, I have lost one in a pothole accident. I would like to know what it is going to take to make the relevant authorities act promptly when it comes to ills that affect human lives on our roads, and also what can be done to prevent people from destroying the roads during protests.
If somebody can tell me, I shall be willing to do what it takes to get action. I do not wish to be forced to the point where I have to lead a protest to state a case. I am positive I shall get all the support I need. You see, that is the language that is clearly understood. I am a tax-payer and I am not allowed "to pay or not to pay" because it is deducted before I get paid.
The piece of road at Paradise in Westmoreland (near the JPSCo) which has, reportedly, contributed to about 10 accidents, some of which were fatal, urgently needs repairs. So does the piece at Richmond on the Christiana/Spaldings main road which is waiting for a disaster to happen.
Help, in the name of justice and fairness, HELP!
I am, etc.,
