Comedians from the Wild, Wild West

THE EDITOR, Madam:

OUR DEMENTED policemen have shown their ineptitude once more. The incident which unveiled itself on Friday June 30 where police officers reportedly shot up a minibus subsequently injuring six people is nothing short of a tragicomedy.

Our lawmen are known for acting in an unprofessional manner but this by far takes the cake. These usurpers of power are in no position to claim police status. They are in my eyes insipid comedians from the Wild, Wild West. Their folly could so easily have resulted in a worst-case scenario.

This display of police incompetence has left me mulling over the future of our flimsy Constabulary Force. What the dickens could have induced these officers to spray live rounds all over a bus which in the end proved to be carrying innocent passengers. It's understood that they were responding to a lead that gunmen were on the bus, but is this how you react bearing in mind that the call could be false. How about calling for back-up and strategically surrounding the bus, which would leave the driver with no choice but to stop.

I am saddened at the fact that our lawmen have now parked their brains and are now thinking with their pistols. Mr. Forbes not only are they to be removed from frontline duties but they need to be hastily axed from the Police Force. It's quite clear that they do not belong in police business.

I am etc.,

MICHAEL MORGAN
