40 students for Carib science fair

FORTY STUDENTS, representing 20 primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the island, will be heading to Dominica this year for the Seventh Caribbean Regional Science, Mathematics and Technology Fair.

The fair, which is being mounted under the theme, "Science and Technology: Crossing the frontier into the new millennium", is to be held from August 18 to 26.

"Jamaica has always dominated the Caribbean science fair by being overall champions and by taking most of the first places," said Dr. Errol Miller, former regional chair and archivist for the Steering Committee which organises the fair. He is confident that the country will perform as well as it did at the last fair, held two years ago in Barbados, when Jamaica walked away with 34 medals, including 18 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze.

Young hopefuls from 19 Caribbean countries will meet at Ross University and at the Portsmouth Beach Hotel in Dominica and will enter projects based on their level of education and in subject areas like Agriculture, Biology, Computer and Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physics and Integrated Science.
