WESTERN BUREAU:
TALKS BETWEEN the Government and South Korean contractor Bosung Engineering will continue over this weekend with word that some progress is being made.
The Ministry of Transport and Works, its technical officers and consultants, have been doing technical assessments of Bosung's proposal on what is required to resume construction on the South Gully drain and Northern Coastal Highway projects.
Bosung has put together a US$62 million proposal to finalise work on the highway over an 18-month period, and the Ministry and its consultants have also come up with their own assessment. The talks are meant to see whether common ground can be found on both positions.
It is expected that Dr. Peter Phillips, the Minister of Transport and Works, will announce the outcome of the talks at a press conference in Kingston on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.
Last weekend, Dr. Phillips named a three-member task force to help get work restarted on two stalled Northern Jamaica Development Projects, the Northern Coastal Highway and South Gully drain expansion.
Members of the task force are Dr. Wayne Reid, former chairman of the National Water Commission, Joseph Shako, former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Works, and Noel Levy, attorney from the legal firm of Myers Fletcher and Gordon.
