Guys Hill past student looks at starting robotics training in the school

Published: Wednesday June 20, 2018 | 12:10 pm Comments 0

Cornel Levy, founder and president of ConnectJA will be heading to his alma mater Guys Hill High School with computers for a second lab, additionally he will also be implementing a robotics project.

For the past few years, Levy through ConnectJA has set up and equipped the computer lab and also sponsored a student from grade 9 to 11.

This year the organisation will be sponsoring two students, and will be shipping another 58 computers for the second computer lab.

ConnectJA has also sourced clothes and shoes for the students.

“However, donors need to identify schools with special needs so we can address the issues of these disenfranchised entities,” he said.

Levy formed ConnectJA after discussions with his cousin Vivine Buddo who teaches at Guys Hill.

In addition to his ConnectJA involvement, Levy is also the president of CaribLanta a soccer and social club located in Atlanta, Georgia.

“On a yearly basis, CaribLanta travels to Jamaica and plays a friendly soccer match or matches with top teams in Jamaica. Last year we played against Harbour View Master’s league and won. This year, we will be playing in Portland,” he said.

Each year too, he said they donate to a worthy cause and last year the donations went to an organisation focusing on women with HIV.

“This year, we will be donating to the Portland Hospital as well as a Police Officer who was injured on the job and as a result has special needs,” he shared.

His goal is to be able to have fundraisers and sponsor schools without members of ConnectJA reaching into their pockets.

“We get donations in regards to computer equipment but most of the other things we buy and getting people on board to help with planning and fundraising and grant writing is our primary concern,” he said.
